Under Floor Air Distribution - UFAD

UFAD deliver air from under the floor and typically use that under-floor space as a plenum.

Application Problems

UFAD require a very tight under-floor plenum, which often is not practical. Perimeter heating zones require fan units or other heating source. The space savings are often not as great as promised since the ceiling still needs to carry fire-sprinklers, lighting and other devices. Advantages of UAD materialize in spaces with high ceiling height only. The floor slab can raise air temperature, reducing performance. Dirt will fall into the underfloor, which is the supply plenum - does anyone ever clean this cavity that is full of wiring, pipes andother dust-collectors?
